Athens Sunday Dec 7, 05:45am
Alex Grigoropoulos, 15, a young Greek student, was murdered tonight between 09:30 and 10:00 pm, by a cop at a street near Exarchia Square, in Athens. Eye witnesses testified that the cop, who belonged to an elite unit trained to handle armed robberies and “terrorist” attacks, got out of the police cruiser and shot the boy 3 times pointblank with his service sidearm. Allegedly, this happened after a verbal exchange between the boy and the two cops patrolling the area on their cruiser.
The two cops are held for interrogation. There is information that one of them confessed of taking aimed shots at the boy on purpose. Initially, there was an attempt by the authorities to present the case as an accident, where a bullet fired in the air by the cop trying to control “30 rioters”, ricocheted. This attempt was refuted by the eyewitnesses, at least one of them being a local shopkeeper.
All over Athens, blogs and the Athens Indymedia website are hot with infuriated messages condemning the act of murder and expressing their rage. There are a lot of people in the streets and there is street fighting around Exarchia and the Polytechnic School (NTUA), which is occupied by the demonstrators. There is going to be a rally Sunday at 13:00 pm. Rallies are being hastily organized during the night in all the major cities of Greece.
Please spread this information as far as possible. It is important that people know what is happening in Greece at this time.
